OS X Mountain Lion new Features: Share Sheets, Twitter

There’s a cool feature in OS X Mountain Lion called Share Sheets. It’s almost unnoticeable, but it’s going to make a world of difference for the people who keep close contact with their friends and family.

When OS X Mountain Lion ships this summer, it’s going to make it easier than ever to share links, photos, and videos directly from your apps.

A small button (highlighted below) living in key apps such as Safari, Notes, Reminders, Photo Booth, and iPhoto, will let you send off quick pieces of information, or “sheets”, via Twitter, Flickr, Vimeo, Messages, Mail, AirDrop, as well as your own preferred destination.

“When you see it, share it. You’ll find the Share button in many OS X Mountain Lion apps,” says Apple.

“It’s the new, easy way to spread the word — links, photos, and videos, too. Send links from Safari. Send your notes via Mail and Messages. Post photos to Flickr. Send videos to Vimeo. And tweet just about anything.”

If you’re more into Twitter (exclusively), you’ll be glad to learn that OS X Lion brings Twitter integration to the Mac, much like iOS brought it to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in 2011 with the release of iOS 5.

“Tweet right from your apps,” reads Apple's marketing campaign. “OS X Mountain Lion keeps you on top of all things Twitter. Sign in once and you’re all set to start tweeting — and you don’t have to leave the app you’re in.”

Mountain Lion users will tweet links and photos directly from the Mac’s built-in web browser, as well as from iPhoto, or Photo Booth, with the new Tweet Sheet command.

You’ll be able to tweet comments and add locations, and when someone mentions you in a tweet or sends you a direct message, Notification Center will carefully point you to those updates on the spot.
