Ubuntu for Android - How it works ?

There's been quite a bit of buzz since the announcement of Ubuntu for Android, and there's quite a bit of buzz in Hall 7 here at Mobile World Congress. Canonical's announcement of Ubuntu for Android kicked up quite a stir, but it also left us with a few unknowns.

That's where Canonical is showing off just what Ubuntu can do when paired to a dual-core smartphone, and it remains every bit impressive as when we got our preview a week ago.

The idea is that your phone becomes a mobile PC, switching from Android into full desktop Ubuntu mode when you dock it to a bigger display, keyboard and mouse. But just how well does it perform? When is it coming? How is it coming? And will tinkerers be able to install it for themselves?

Canonical let us into its London office today to try out the software and pepper one of its engineers with questions. First, the good news: Ubuntu for Android is everything it's been claimed to be. It's a functional desktop OS that sits alongside Android, shares the same kernel and has full read / write access to everything on your phone (the connectivity hardware itself plus contacts, emails, videos, apps and pretty much everything else.). It's also ready for ARM-compatible Ubuntu apps, potentially expanding the range of things your phone can do.

CONCLUSION : Your smartphone (at minimum a dual-core device) will have a custom Linux kernel. And on top of that runs Android and Ubuntu. They run in parallel; when you plug your phone into a HDMI display, it switches from Android to Ubuntu and you get a full desktop experience.

There are two videos here that would explain more details about ubuntu for android

Downloat the latest Avast! Internet Security 7.0.1401 (beta2)

I like the new installer and interface and avast! 7 includes useful new layers of protection, too. It's still a beta, though, so don't rely on the program to keep you safe for too long.

Avast! Internet Security 7 makes an impression right away with an interesting new installation routine. As well as the usual "Express" install which just gives you everything, it's also possible to run a Compatible Install which essentially means you can choose precisely what you want: which core components, which real-time shields, even which language. Which could be ideal if you want to install a minimum version of the program to run alongside another antivirus tool.

The program's new interface is clean and simple. Your system status is just a click away, and the real-time protection you get here - File System, Mail, Web filtering, P2P and Instant Message scanning, Network checks, Scripts and Behavioural Monitoring, as well as the firewall - can also be checked and reconfigured (if appropriate) in a moment. (Although the Spam filter seems different, for some reason, and on our test PC we had to access it directly from our copy of Outlook 2010.)

Avast! 7 introduces new cloud-based services, too. Reputation Services connect to the cloud to establish the safety of websites and individual files, while new streaming updates help you stay more quickly protected against the latest threats.

One of the more unusual additions here is a Remote Assistance option, which allows you to connect to and share the desktop of another avast! user.

And of course avast! reports many general improvements, in particular with the program's sandbox and browsing protection.

This is avast! 7's internet security suite. The program also comes in a Free and Pro antivirus edition, and even the most basic of these delivers plenty of power, including a lot of real-time and browsing protection. So if you're looking to save money then the Free edition may be the best place to start.

But keep in mind that these are the first public beta releases of avast! 7, and they have plenty of problems. Here, for instance, are the issues avast! knows about already.

- In some cases, WebRep Chrome plugin is not installed correctly
- The Safezone browser is opening each time when you switch back and to the Safezone
- Plugins for Outlook 2k3 and 2k7 show "runtime error" message
- Sometimes autosandbox toaster does not close correctly
- Problems with avast sounds on Win 7 and Win Vista
- Remote assistance feature sometimes crashes on Win 7 32b, Win Vista 64b
- avast! account functionality is disabled
- the help hasn't been updated yet, it's still from v6
- many of the translations haven't been updated yet, so you'll see new items in English

So install with caution, if you do so at all.

Tools for download clips from online video sharing sites

Freemake Video Downloader is easy to use, and includes some useful features, but wasn't always able to detect videos in the test YouTube URLs we provided

Freemake Video Downloader is a simple tool to help you download clips from online video sharing sites.

Unlike most of the competition, the program doesn't have to sniff out the download link from network traffic. Instead you simply paste the URL for the page hosting the clip - the "www.youtube.com/watch?v=something" part - and it should be able to extract the video link for you.

We say "should", because in our tests this didn't work on every occasion. It was successful most of the time, though, at which point Freemake Video Downloader asked us for the clip resolution we'd like to download, conveniently displaying the file size to help us make a decision.

And the program also provides a handy "Conversion" option. If the FLV, MP4 or 3GP formats commonly offered by YouTube don't suit your needs, for instance, then Freemake Video Downloader can convert your clip to AVI video or just an MP3 soundtrack.

The program supports all the main video sharing sites, and quite a few of the minor ones, too: YouTube, Facebook, Google, Megavideo, MTV, MTV Music, Dailymotion, Metacafe, Vimeo, LiveLeak, Veoh and Photobucket, amongst others.

The latest v3 ships with these new features/fixes:

- Added the possibility to download streaming videos from ANY website (except Hulu, MTV Network, Netflix and YouTube RTMP and on-demand videos)
- Added the ability to resume broken downloads
- Added the download history feature

How to install Mac OS X Lion Theme in Ubuntu 11.10/12.04

How to install Mac OS X Lion Theme in Ubuntu 11.10/12.04

Dou you wan to to get a new feeling?
Are you boring with standart theme from Ubuntu?
It's can be solution for you.. Make your Ubuntu like Mac OS X!

MacBuntu born with special feature: GTK Theme, Icon Theme, Cursor Theme, Gnome Tweak Tool (To manage themes), A dock application (Docky or Cairo Dock)

In before editions of Ubuntu, really up to 10.10, a Mac OS X transformation pack was ready for Ubuntu users (based on GTK 2.*) but now the Ubuntu 11.10 (the latest stable edition) or 12.04 LTS (just alpha versions are visible right now) as well as other Ubuntu derivatives such as Linux Mint, are based on GTK 3 – so the transformation pack doesn’t work anymore. Both of the desktop – Unity (The default interface in 11.10) and Gnome 3 shell are quite popular.

mac-osx-theme-ubuntu

If you want to make Ubuntu 11.10/12.04 look like Mac OS X Lion, then you need to install few basic things -
  1. GTK Theme
  2. Icon Theme
  3. Cursor Theme
  4. Gnome Tweak Tool (To manage themes)
  5. A dock application (Docky or Cairo Dock)
A cool snapshot – exploring Cairo Dock effects (using OpenGL, although you may choose to ‘no OpenGL’ version of Cairo Dock if the graphics performance of your computer is poor), of  my desktop after install above stuffs :

mac osx-theme-in-unity

Installing Mac Theme by ‘MBoss’ Packages

First of all – download the theme package (it contains theme, icons and cursors) and extract it to appropriate locations as specified -
1. Download Mac OS X GTK Theme package and extract it to ~/.themes
2. Download the Mac OS X Icon theme and extract it to ~/.icons       (create that directory if it doesn’t exist)
3. Download Mac OS X Cursor Icon theme and extract it to /usr/share/icons

For extracting cursor icons to usr/share/icons location, you need root access while browsing with nautilus
gksu nautilus
and finally you may need to change the permission settings to make it accessible also by a non root user. (By default it may be assigned root permission only).

Install Docky or Cairo

If you like Docky then install it from Ubuntu Software Center or execute (as it’s there in repository by default) -

sudo apt-get install docky
On the other hand – if you want to try Cairo Dock (as seen in screenshot) then execute these commands
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cairo-dock cairo-dock-plug-ins

cairo-dock-mac osx ubuntu theme

Gnome Tweak Tool is very handy for changing themes or tweaking other settings of Desktop so If you haven’t already installed it Gnome Tweak Tool then install it by executing the command -

sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool

Now, open Gnome Tweak Tool and select Mac_OS_X_Lion_Theme  - as indicated in above snapshot. Then, start Cairo Dock or Docky whatever you have installed. That’s all I hope you are enjoying the cool look of Mac on your Ubuntu 11.10/12.04 computer.

Have Fun :) – let me know if any problem occurs.
Besides Gnome Tweak Tool, you could also use ‘Ubuntu Tweak‘ – a small application to tweak/customize desktop in easy way.

ubuntu Tweak mac osx theme ubuntu

To install Ubuntu Tweak, execute the following commands -

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/next
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

Thanks to MBOSSG for his art work – i.e Mac OS X Theme, icons and cursor themes.

How to Share Spectacular Google Earth Vistas on Google+

How to Share Spectacular Google Earth Vistas on Google+

What better ways to celebrate and experience all of this than to share it with friends over Google+. As luck would have it, Google Earth 6.2 comes with Google+ integration as well.

"Millions of people use Google Earth to explore exotic islands, re-visit their childhood homes, and scout out day hikes. Are you one of them? If so, why not share your virtual travel with friends and family?," urges Google.

"We’ve already seen fantastic Google Earth land and cityscapes shared on Google+, not to mention solar systems, ocean topography, Street View scenes, weather forecasts, gigapixel photography and more. If you can find it in Google Earth, you can share it on Google+," it said.

Sharing on Google+ from Google Earth is rather straightforward. You have to be logged into your Google account, of course. Click on the "Sign in" button in the top right corner, provide your Google account details and you're set.

Then just click on the Share button that should now be visible and you'll be greeted by the familiar Google+ share box. A screenshot of whatever it is you're viewing in Google Earth will be attached and you can write your message, select the circles and share the view.

If you're a fan of Google Earth, you can also follow the dedicated Google+ page. What's more, if you think your screenshots are more artistic than the rest, you can use the #GoogleEarthSnapshot hashtag in your message and your pic may be included in the community album.

Download Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit for Nokia Lumia

Download Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit for Nokia Lumia

The Lumia series is Nokia's only chance on the smartphone market. The bad news is that Windows Phone Marketplace still has a low number of apps in comparison with Android Market and App Store.

However, it's a good thing Microsoft's mobile platform gains more and more devs each week. Today, one of the most popular game in the “Need for Speed” franchise has been introduced in the Windows Phone Marketplace.

“Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit” is now available for Nokia Lumia users, as well as other Windows Phone devices that run the latest version (Mango) of Microsoft's operating system.

Unfortunately, as with all Windows Phone games, this one doesn't come for free. Those who want to try it out can do it for free, but the full game is available for £3.99 (6 USD or 4.8 EUR). Chek it out here.

Install Ubuntu Music Search Scopes for Unity

Because the default Music Lens of Ubuntu 11.10 allows you to only search music imported in the Banshee audio player, the Ubuntu Music Scopes contain Unity Launcher plugins that allows you to search local music in the Rhythmbox, Clementine and Guayadeque music apps, directly from the Unity Dash.

How to install Unity Music Scopes?

To install the Unity Music Scopes plugins for Rhythmbox, Clementine and Guayadeque in your Ubuntu operating system, open a terminal window (hit the CTRL+ALT+T key combination) and paste the following commands (one by one, hitting Enter after each one):

sudo add-apt-repository sudo ppa:markjtully/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install clementine-scope guayadeque-scope rhythmbox-scope

You will also need to restart your session after the installation. Be aware that this is only availalbe for Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot).

Android 4.0.2 Arrives on Bell’s Galaxy Nexus

Android 4.0.2 Arrives on Bell’s Galaxy Nexus

Another Galaxy Nexus model has just started to get a taste of the latest Android 4.0 flavors out there, on the airwaves of Bell in Canada.

Owners of a Galaxy Nexus smartphone at the wireless carrier can now get a taste of this software update and of the benefits it brings along, reports emerged.

The update is being delivered to devices over the air, and all that users will need to do is to hit the install button when the notification arrives. However, they should make sure that the handset is connected to a WiFi network before that happens, so that no data charges would apply.

In the meantime, we should note that this is not the very last Android 4.0 flavor out there, since Google has already announced 4.0.3, and reports on the 4.0.4 and 4.0.5 version also started to emerge.

However, it might not be too long before more updates are officially announced, so stay tuned.

The top three commercial applications

How to Install Gingerbread Update on LG Phoenix (AT&T)

How to Install Gingerbread Update on LG Phoenix (AT&T)

One of the most popular budget-friendly Android smartphones available on the market, the LG Optimus One already received its Gingerbread upgrade a long time ago.

However, several carrier-bounded Optimus One models have been left out from the initial deployment of the upgrade. One of these carrier-branded models is AT&T’s LG Phoenix, which is available in the United States since April 2011.

By today’s standards, the affordable smartphone has crappy features, but as an LG Optimus One clone, the Phoenix had its moment of glory when it was launched on the market last year.

Today, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the LG Phoenix is getting a new Android update, which is meant to improve users’ experience. AT&T and LG have teamed up to offer customers the Android 2.3 Gingerbread for LG Phoenix.

Unfortunately, the update is not pushed OTA (over the air), so LG Phoenix owners will have to download and install the latest LG Mobile Support Tool software on their Windows PCs in order to be able to update their smartphones.

For the time being, LG Mobile Support Tool is only compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, so there’s no support for Mac users.

Keep in mind that you will need to download and install the LG United Mobile Driver to ensure that you have the latest driver for your mobile phone.

After the installation successfully completes, restart the computer and install the LG Mobile Support Tool.

Make sure the phone’s battery is at least 50% charged and save any personal data that you have stored on the phone. It’s also recommended to remove any microSD memory card inserted, and make sure the “Mass storage only” mode is not enabled.

Then connect the LG Phoenix to the PC using an USB cable and make sure you do not click on the “Turn on USB storage” option that will appear on the phone’s screen.

As soon as the phone is detected by LG’s software, click “Start Updating” within the LG Mobile Support Tool and the updating process should begin. The phone requires a reboot after the process is successfully completed.

The thinnest phones from Samsung Galaxy S3

According to South Korean title Electronic Times News, the new phone will reportedly come in a package that's just 7mm thin, making it one of the thinnest phones on the market.

However, it wouldn't be THE thinnest, thanks to the Huawei Ascend P1 S, which launched to great (ish) fanfare at CES this year popping up at 6.68mm thick.

PCB thin-win

Printed circuit boards will allow the phone to be made up to 20% thinner according to the title, with the Galaxy S3 development team in place for nearly a year already in its quest to stay ahead of / topple the iPhone (depending on which report you read).

The media outlet also stated the Samsung Galaxy S3 release date has been set for May, which would likely put it slightly ahead of the iPhone 5 launch and allow Samsung to create some early hype for its flagship phone.

There's very little else in terms of specs or details on when Samsung will actually announce the 'delayed' phone – but it seems the notions that it will be a quad-core behemoth with a larger Super AMOLED HD screen and Ice Cream Sandwich are pretty much nailed on.

Ipad 3 Release date, specs and more for the next iPad

The iPad 3 could follow hot on the heels of the iPad 2. So what's the word on the street about the next iPad?

Apple iPad 3 release date

The iPad 3 release date looks set for March or April 2012, with an iPad 3 announcement in March to coincide with the release of iOS 5.1.

Website YourDailyMac has unearthed iOS 5.1 carrier profiles which carry the possible iPad 3 release date of 9 March 2012 in their names.

However, we'd expect the iPad 3 announcement to be in February, with the iPad 3 US release date in early March and the iPad 3 UK release date in late March.

Digitimes reported in late November 2011 that panel makers had already started shipping panels for the new iPad 3 - a million in October and two million in November.

Foxconn, Apple's major manufacturing partner, is said to have started production of the iPad 3 in January. 2012. A source at one of Apple's partners also told Bloomberg also stated that the company began production of the iPad 3 in January, with a view to reaching full volumes in February.

Digitimes says the new model is expected to meet the heady heights of 9.5 to 9.8 million units over the course of Q1 2012.

The Apple iPad 3 will have a quad-core processor

It's probable that the iPad 3 will have a brand spanking new processor, Apple's A6 - which will surely be a quad-core ARM-based processor. Quad-core designs are coming from various ARM partners and the Tegra 3 has already been launched by Nvidia, as well as the Snapdragon S4 from Qualcomm.

According to the Korea Times in November 2011, the A6 processors are to be manufactured by Samsung, despite the companies' ongoing patent battles.

Apple iPad 3 display

A retina display was widely predicted for the iPad 2, but of course the current iPad doesn't have a double-resolution display: for now, that's something you'll only get in the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Could an iPad 3 Retina Display be on the way? It's the very first thing on our iPad 3 wish list.

The exciting news is that it looks as though it is happening, with Apple reportedly testing suppliers' current shipments of 2048 x 1536 resolution 9.7-inch displays. Now that iBooks 2 has been launched (as of 19 January 2012), we've also seen further references to 2x iPad screen images - these will, most likely, be for iPad 3.

However, it's not always been plain sailing for the display - rumours continued over the summer and autumn of 2011 that the retina display in the iPad 3 was continuing to be a challenge.

Back in May 2011, we reported that the iPad 3 could launch with a Samsung-made AMOLED screen, following rumours that Apple was in talks on the matter with Samsung execs. There have also been more LG and Samsung rumours, too.

However, according to the Wall Street Journal in late November 2011, Sharp will manufacture panels for the device. Apparently Apple is investing in infrastructure at Sharp's LCD plant. Further rumours said that Apple is looking to implement some nifty dual LED lightbar technology into the iPad 3, apparently in a bid to counter-balance the brightness issue that the Apple tablet may have, due to its super-high pixel density.

A part leak in early December again pointed to a Sharp-manufactured 2048x1536 retina display and dual lightbar.

Final Cut Pro X Multicam Editing Tips and Tricks

Final Cut Pro X Multicam Editing Tips and Tricks

A knowledge-base article on Apple’s Support site details the various benefits enabled by Multicam shooting - now supported in the newest version of Final Cut Pro X.

For example, before you shoot footage for your multicam project, make sure your set the date, the time, and the time zone on your camcorder or recording device, Apple says.

“This provides useful information to Final Cut Pro during the automatic multicam clip creation process.”

Producers can change the Content Created date and time of their source clips at any time using the Event Browser - “Just select one or more clips and choose Modify > Adjust Content Created Date and Time.”

Apple advises to record audio on every camcorder and recording device in your multicam production “because you can use the sophisticated automatic audio sync feature in Final Cut Pro to help ensure multicam synchronization accuracy.”

“Clear audio recordings provide the best results,” according to the Cupertino giant.

“Before you edit multicam clips in the Angle Editor, duplicate them in the Event Browser to maintain clean backup copies,” reads another tip.

Producers are provided a set of instructions for times when performance becomes an issue while working on a multicam project.

Another tip says you can fill a multicam clip with photos from a still camera.

“If the date and time (Content Created) information matches the contents of the other angles, the photos are automatically adjusted in duration to “fill in” the angle,” reads the Help document.

About Mozilla Firefox 10 for Mac OS X

In the release notes accompanying Firefox 10 Final for Mac OS X, Mozilla has confirmed that users will (or should) no longer experience crashes when closing a tab with a Java applet installed. Growl integration, however, still needs more work to behave properly.

The changelog for Firefox 10.0 was published yesterday, soon after Mozilla had released the binaries for download.

Among the multiple changes and tweaks affecting all operating systems and platforms, this particular fix is noted: “Mac OS X only - after installing the latest Java release from Apple, Firefox may crash when closing a tab with a Java applet installed.”

In usual manner for the software company, a link is offered for those eager to learn the particularities of the bug in question.

A Java applet is delivered to users in the form of Java bytecode and can run in a web browser using a Java Virtual Machine (JVM), or in Sun Microsystems’ stand-alone tool for testing applets - AppletViewer.

Java applets run somewhat slower than applets compiled in languages such as C++. Until last year, Java applets ran many times faster than JavaScript.

Another Mac-specific note involves an unresolved issue with notifications not working properly with Growl 1.3 or later:

“Firefox notifications may not work properly with Growl 1.3 or later.”

Growl, for those who don’t know, is the most popular notification system for the Mac.

The app got updated to version 1.3.3 recently. Growl now works correctly on case-sensitive file systems and all of the preferences selections should now show up in the toolbar.

Although Growl integrates with most Mac applications, it’s the job of the add-on developer and / or Mozilla to see that their software works well with Growl. Future updates will undoubtedly address this problem.

In the new Firefox for Android version, Mozilla included a better Sync set-up, which is complemented by a series of bug fixes.

Overall, the application should be able to provide users with better performance than before, and those who have it installed on their Android devices should update to the new version right away.

Android users who haven’t already installed the application on their devices can do so now. The app is available on Softpedia via this link.

As for the changes that have been included with the new software release, we can count the following:

- Anti-Aliasing for WebGL is now implemented (see bug 615976)
- Accelerated layers are now supported via OpenGL ES
- It's now even easier to set up Firefox Sync - see the "Set up Sync" link on the home tab
- New element for bi-directional text isolation, along with supporting CSS properties (see bugs 613149 and 662288)
- We've added IndexedDB APIs to more closely match the specification
- There is an extremely rare case where the browser may become unable to load web pages or close tabs

The new Firefox release for Android comes with improved overall usability and performance, but nothing compares to what the next app release will be able to deliver.

Firefox for Android 11, currently in Aurora, and moving to the Beta channel, will arrive with a Native UI. The adoption of Android’s native interface means that the loading times have been shortened considerably, and that users will benefit from a snappier overall application.

The beta flavor of Firefox with Native UI on Android was expected to arrive along with the final flavor of Firefox 10, but Mozilla announced recently that it might miss the deadline. However, it should arrive soon, so stay tuned.

The highlights for this release revolve around add-ons, as starting Firefox 10 they will be compatible by default; an add-on will also be used by Mozilla to deliver hotfixes for the web browser (already tested), thus decreasing the number of full updates pushed to the users.

Also planned for this release is the elimination of the “forward” button (it pops up when you navigate back), full-screen APIs for videos and games, CSS3 3D-Transforms and an inspector tool for CSS and HTML

Firefox 10 Is Here, New Features Rundown

Add-ons compatible by default

The big new feature in Firefox 10, at least in terms of impact, is default add-on compatibility. All add-ons that are listed as supporting Firefox 4 or greater will be allowed to work and be installed in Firefox 10.

Some of them may need to be updated and may still be incompatible, but this is judged on a case-by-case basis, unless they are proven not to work, add-ons will be marked as compatible.

This should mean that people will find it easier to update to a new Firefox version and won't be stuck with old, unsafe and unsupported versions simply because their favorite add-ons don't work.

Fullscreen API

"Firefox introduces the Mozilla Full-Screen API for websites and Web applications, allowing developers to build Web experiences that leverage the entire screen," Mozilla explained.

"Full-Screen API enables developers to create full screen games, immersive video experiences and rich presentation sharing," it said.

The Fullscreen API is part of the proposed HTML5 standard and it enables websites to request that the page take up the entire screen. Video players and 3D games are the two most obvious uses for the feature, but there are others. Chrome and Safari also support the API.

WebGL Anti-Aliasing and CSS 3D Transforms

"Firefox now supports Anti-Aliasing for WebGL, allowing developers to create objects that blend together and move smoothly," it added.

"Firefox also supports CSS 3D Transforms, which lets developers animate and transform two dimensional elements into 3D using HTML5 without the need for third-party plugins," it said.

All in all, the new stuff in Firefox 10 should be of bigger interest to developers than to regular users. Still, the simple fact that most add-ons will now work with any Firefox makes this release worthwhile..

Stem Cells Could Help Crack Hepatitis C Mystery

Stem Cells Could Help Crack Hepatitis C Mystery

By using induced pluripotent stem cells as a starting point, researchers in the United States say they can obtain liver-like cells that could help them crack the mystery surrounding hepatitis C. The condition is puzzling because it produces different effects on patients.

The overall effects are the same – mostly inflammations followed by organ failure – but the way in which these symptoms manifest themselves differ from patient to patient. Many experts believe that minute genetic differences may be to blame for this.

Additionally, past investigations have revealed that some people simply appear to be immune to the disorder, whereas others are very susceptible of developing it. By studying liver cells from all types of people, researchers believed that they could pinpoint the genetic variations.

But obtaining, and working with, the cells has proven to be very difficult, primarily because they tend to lose their function and form once they are removed from the liver. This is where the iPSC step in.

The new technique is proposed by a group of experts made up of specialists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Rockefeller University and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The main advantage of working with iPSC is that the stem cells can be collected from the developed body, thus avoiding the difficulty of getting them from viable embryos. Mature cells harvested from the body can then be reverted back to a pluripotent stage, and then made to develop into liver cells.

Researchers can then infect these cultures with hepatitis C, and observe the effects that the condition has on different types of cells. Exact details of how this is done are listed in the latest issue of the esteemed journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

“This is a very valuable paper because it has never been shown that viral infection is possible” in cells derived from iPSC, comments Baylor College of Medicine assistant professor of molecular and cellular biology Karl-Dimiter Bissig, who was not a part of the investigation.

Music Can Delay Aging, Can be Anti Aging?

Fact about Music Can Delay Aging - music can be anti aging?

I simply knew that my passion for music would reward me in the future. Apparently, people who experience lifelong musical experiences tend to be more likely to display a delay in the normal aging process, including aspects such as memory loss and impaired hearing.

Until now, most investigators were convinced that neurons responsible for decoding and relaying audio signals in the brain had a path of their own, where decay was unavoidable. What the new data suggest is that musical training can prevent this decay.

The distinct neural timing advantage was discovered by experts at the Northwestern University Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory, who investigated a number of old musicians. They measured participants' automatic brain responses to speech sounds, PsychCentral reports.

“The older musicians not only outperformed their older non-musician counterparts, they encoded the sound stimuli as quickly and accurately as the younger non-musicians,” NU neuroscientist and study co-author Nina Kraus, PhD, explains.
